Novahunt Bird hunting in Scandinavia

Those passionate bird hunters that have traveled the world in search of hunting experiences will find our Capercaillie and Black grouse hunts to be in a class of it’s own. Unlike pheasant-, partridge- or duck shoots, a bird hunt in Norway or Sweden is more of a trophy hunt.  Rather than aiming for a large bag provide, this is a once in a life time hunting experience.

Please enjoy the video clip below – it’s a nice impression of what your experience will be like!

Experiencing Upland Bird Hunting in Scandinavia

What is it all about? It is about fantastic dog work, making friends with your guide, enjoying the wonderful Scandinavian landscape and of course about bagging trophies that not many of your fellow hunters have on their wall. It’s about putting your self through physical challenges every day, being quick on the shotgun and coming home to your traditional Scandinavian cabin to enjoy a meal of local produce.

It is the kind of hunt where you will forget the one bird you missed, but 20 years down the road you will still remember the campfire over which you cooked a fresh caught trout.  In short; it is a celebration of life.

Hunting Methods

In the far North the winter arrives early, and with that the forest birds change their habitat from the floor to the tree tops. Over the centuries Scandinavians have perfected their hunting techniques and we divide the season into two periods, with a completely different approach to the hunt.

Early Season Capercaillie hunting

During this period we use bird dogs (setter’s, pointers).

This is an excellent experience for those that love the dog work and appreciate nature during the fall.

Late Season Tree top hunting

These hunts are conducted on Ski’s or snow shoes,  with a light caliber rifle.

We now stalk- hunt (some times we use spetz dogs) the bird as it is foraging on the treetops in a snow covered landscape.

We would like to welcome you to Norway and Sweden for a classic Scandinavian bird hunting experience. Please do not hesitate to contact us for any advice regarding hunting in Scandinavia, we are glad to be of service.
